Intern in AI Agent Development for students of Physics, Mathematics & Computer Science – Eschborn, Germany or Arlesheim, Switzerland
AI agents · Practice instead of theory · Real projects · Rhine-Main & Basel
You are studying physics, mathematics or computer science & want to know what your academic knowledge feels like when it turns into AI agents for real companies – instead of exercise sheets for the drawer? Then you are exactly right with us!
The SBI-Group has been a pioneer of digitalisation for more than 43 years – from the early days of IT to today's AI era. We develop tailor-made software solutions for companies across the most diverse industries – with well-established experience in Finance, Insurance, Industry & Food Services and open to any business field where AI creates real added value. With us, you can contribute ideas from day one, take on responsibility and work on solutions that combine innovation, sustainability and customer focus. Become part of a team that unites experience, vision and team spirit.
Why this position exists
We are deliberately expanding our business field for AI agents as a service – and we believe: the best talent is found early. An internship with us is no coffee-making & no slide-pushing. You work on real systems, see how an AI prototype becomes a production-ready solution – and we see whether we are a good match. For many of our interns, this is the first step towards a working-student position or a permanent role.
Your contribution & our shared goals:
- Creativity: You bring a fresh perspective from your studies & ask exactly the questions that well-rehearsed teams sometimes no longer ask.
- Sustainability: From the start, you learn the difference between "works on my machine" & a solution that is documented, tested & maintainable.
- Collaboration: You work right in the middle of the team, receive regular feedback & have a dedicated contact person for all your questions.
- Flexibility: You get a taste of different projects & industries & find out what really suits you.
- Development: In just a few months you build practical AI competence that no course catalogue can offer.
- Impact: Your work does not end up in a filing cabinet – it flows into real customer solutions.
Your added value:
What you bring – and what we make of it together:
- Studies: You are studying physics, mathematics, computer science or a related STEM subject – from the 3rd semester, Bachelor or Master.
- Analytical thinking: You approach problems in a structured way, think logically & do not give up when the first approach does not work – that matters more to us than any tool knowledge.
- Programming basics: You have first experience with a programming language – ideally Python – from lectures, exercises or your own projects.
- AI curiosity: You are interested in LLMs & AI agents & want to understand how these systems really work – not just how to operate them.
- Reliability: You work conscientiously, speak up when you are stuck & handle what is entrusted to you with care.
- Languages: very good German (min. C1) & good English (min. B2).
Nice-to-have – not a must, but a plus:
- First experiments with LLM APIs (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI), chatbots or your own AI projects
- Basic knowledge of Git, SQL or Linux
- Exercises or projects on machine learning, statistics, numerics or data analysis
- Own small projects on GitHub – even unfinished ones, we are happy to take a look
Your tasks:
- Co-developing: You support our team in developing AI agents – with clearly defined tasks that grow with your abilities.
- Learning to review AI code: You learn to read, test & improve AI-generated code – and thereby understand what makes code production-ready.
- Data & evaluations: You prepare data, evaluate AI results & use exactly the analytical toolkit from your studies.
- Testing & documenting: You write tests, document your work & help live our quality standards.
- Thinking along: You take part in team reviews & project meetings & contribute your ideas – good arguments count more with us than titles.
What awaits you in concrete terms:
No internship for the filing cabinet – you work on real systems from day one:
- Collaboration on productive AI agents for real customers – from document processing through process automation to data analysis
- Work with modern LLM APIs, agent frameworks & tools such as Python, Git & Docker
- An experienced developer as your dedicated contact throughout the entire internship
- Your own final project, which you present to the team at the end
How we work together:
- Your employer: a company of SBI - International Innovation Group AG
- Your place of work: Eschborn (near Frankfurt/Main, Germany) or Arlesheim (near Basel, Switzerland) – whichever is easier for you to reach
- Your way of working: full-time internship, duration at least 3 months – on site with remote components; mandatory & voluntary internships possible
Do you feel addressed & are you ready to go full throttle with us for a digital & sustainable future? Then apply – we look forward to meeting you!
Important: Please tell us in your application your preferred location (Eschborn or Arlesheim), your possible time frame, the desired duration & whether it is a mandatory internship. And show us how you think: describe in 3–5 sentences a problem from your studies or a project of your own that really gripped you – what was the challenge & how did you approach it?
